Bowflex PR1000 Home Gym Review

Bowflex PR1000 Home Gym My sister and I are the two fitness freaks of the family. She’s more into staying fit with cardio and aerobic exercises whereas I’m more concerned about improving my physique. Recently, she got a new job but it means that more of her day is taken up by work and commuting also takes up a ton of her time.

She was worried that she wouldn’t be able to workout at the gym anymore but she then started looking into home gyms and came across the Bowflex PR1000. I was skeptical at first thinking: “Can you really get a good workout with this stuff?” Well here’s everything you need to know about the product and my opinion on it.

The Brand

Out of curiosity, I had done a little more digging into the Bowflex brand, I noticed that they’re mostly focused on home gym items. They have six home gyms on the market all varying in prices. The PR1000 model is towards the lower end for this company. Does this mean it’s also of a lower quality? Not at all, it comes down to personal preference on what you think is good for the price you’re paying.

What Other Items Do Bowflex Sell?

bowflex home gymThe other items they have on offer include dumbbells, dumbbell racks, a body fat scale and a couple pieces of cardio equipment. The products they have on the market seem to be of a very high quality. I quickly realised that Bowflex are focused on quality rather than quantity – Everything they’ve sold has been rated 4/4.5 stars on Amazon.

Who It’s For

This home gym is ideal for anyone who’s interested in working out. Sometimes the busy schedule of a hectic life doesn’t allow you to make it to the gym. This is an example where the PR1000 home gym would be ideal.

The closest gym to me is about a 25 minute drive and I’ll admit, some days the idea of the journey back and forth can be really off-putting. A home gym like this one would be perfect on those days, although, they’re rare for me so it might not be worth the investment for myself.

Having said that, I have a friend who’s been training for close to six years now. He, like my sister, also has this particular home gym and is still able to get effective workouts from it. But it also caters to beginners as it includes all the basics too. So again, anyone who’s into fitness or is wanting to make physical changes to their body would find the Bowflex PR1000 Home Gym pretty useful.

Where Can You Buy This Product And Is It Expensive?

The prices for home gyms will depend on the quality and how much can be done on one single piece of equipment. Usually, they can be expensive since you’re also paying for the convenience of having everything you need to get a good workout in one place. The Bowflex PR1000 is priced fairly low within its market, especially when you take into consideration the amount of exercises that you can perform with it.

The prices may differ depending on where you look, but here is how much you can expect to pay for it on Amazon.

Pros

One of the things that sticks out to me is that more than 30 exercises can be done! People simply love the variety. When I tried it out, I was surprised by the overall quality and how smooth the movements feel.

A big complaint about home gyms is how they can often lose and gain tension in different parts of an exercise – Here, you can expect constant tension throughout which is great for gaining muscle.

You can set it up and be training within an hour and a half on your own, even quicker if you have someone else to help. It’s clear this home gym is all about convenience and quality.

Cons

Most people looking to buy a home gym would be wanting something that challenges them and allows them to progress as that’s where the results come from, right? Well the Bowflex PR1000 comes with a maximum resistance of 210 pounds…

For some people. this is too light and one of the biggest flaws is that you cannot add any more weight. This downside is mostly noticeable when performing the bench press. For someone like me who is more experienced in lifting weights, 210 pounds would not be enough resistance.

The main cons are:

  • Not heavy enough for some users.
  • No option to add more weight.

Similar/Alternative Products

XR Home Exercise Gold’s GymSince the Bowflex PR1000 is largely based around using rods and cable attachments to perform exercises, it may not be the best option for people looking to use more free-weights. Some people prefer loading plates onto the bar, if this is the case for you, check out this product. Although you do have to purchase your weights separately, so it will be pricier.

Since some of the Bowflex Pr1000 Home Gym reviews allude to there not being enough weight, you may be better off with the XR Home Exercise Gold’s Gym product. You get 330 pounds of resistance and it’s also closer to the prices of the PR1000.

The Verdict

I love getting a good combination of using both free weights and machines. Going to the gym is where all of my bodybuilding results have come from, so maybe this home gym isn’t for people like me.

However, I do believe it’s a fantastic option that many people could benefit from. If you simply want to stay fit by using resistance exercises and cardio, the main downsides won’t be a big deal to you. As we’ve mentioned before, you have over 30 exercises to choose from! Plus, you can save money in the long run on gym membership fees.

You’re getting great value for money here and it’s a no-brainer for those who can’t make it to a gym most days.
